Garrett Allen (they/them) is a Black, queer multidisciplinary artist whose work navigates the fairly recent, dramatic changes in the ways we consume, perceive, process, identify, and, ultimately, empathize. As a result of that, the pieces they develop are urgent, emotionally vulnerable, unapologetic, and visceral; aiming to combat spectator (and general worldly) passivity by collaboratively creating sensorial and actively engaging experiences, mainly through performance, video, and installation. They constantly investigate and reflect on intersections and collisions within themself and the shifting understanding of “identity”: queerness, Blackness, gender, self as performance, and the complicated relationship of the body to time and space. They love to excavate, question, active, dream, and realize in their practice and work. They are dedicated to tell and explore stories centering Black, queer and trans folx in all their multiplicities and expansiveness and uncovering what may be hidden, intentionally or not. They are dedicated to equitable + ethical art-making and collaboration alongside challenging and dismantling white (and cis, able-bodied, hetero, and patriarchal) supremacy.

They are currently pursuing their MFA in Directing from Yale School of Drama ‘24 and are a graduate of Harvard University with a B.A. in Cognitive Neuroscience and Evolutionary Psychology and a secondary concentration in Theater, Dance, and Media.

They are a co-founder of LEGACY: A Black Queer Production Collective.
